Weekly
Wardrobe – Week 11 (Final
Edition)
We can see
winter turning into spring and our journey close to an
end. A journey, a fable, flocked with many life
enriching messages, from the inside out!
Only four more performances, a little clean up (OK
Amy….a lot of clean up!) and a rip roaring Cast
Party and we'll be closing the wardrobe on the land
of Narnia.
Hopefully we've met new friends, learned a little more
about ourselves, our children, our community and most of
all, the art of theatre. WE did it! Enjoy the
weekend and we'll see you in the next production,
Peter
Pan!
Cast Reminders
Costume Check
Please be sure to inventory
ALL of your cast members' costume pieces BEFORE arriving
at the theater. Please make sure that the costumes
are in good shape and if wrinkled, a light pressing would
be appreciated. Remember, if you do not have your
complete costume, you should not go on-stage.
Lost and Found!
If
you have performed your costume check and you have items
that are missing, there's a good chance that they can be
found in our lost and found. Be sure to check the pile in
the last "dressing/music room", you may be surprised by
what you find!
Be Prepared
Let's make our last four
performances count! Get plenty of rest and come
prepared. Review your lines, blocking and
songs. Be considerate of your fellow cast members,
especially the younger ones!
Hair Control
Let's keep that
fur,
humm, hair under control. If you have long hair
and/or long bangs, make sure that your hair is pulled
back and/or pinned so that it will not fall in your
face. We are seeing way too many cast members
playing with their hair while on stage.

Newsflash #2
ATTENTION ALL YE WHO
DWELL IN NARNIA
Stage Manager speaking.
Here's a few notes and some new
information:
- Today was great! We got many wonderful reviews from the parents and students in the audience. But, as we all know, the second act was a bit shaky. Thus, tomorrow's call has been shifted from 6:30 to 6:00pm, allowing for the tech crew and any cast members available to run the last three or four scene changes. If you can make it, great! If you are in a rush, don't fret. We're just looking to make our opening night performance look effortless. So, 6:00pm is a great target! See you then!
- During our performance today, we were so excited to have the show go smoothly that we forgot about pausing for our much deserved applause at the end of each song! So, please note if you have a line directly following a song that you should pause a few moments before you say your line, giving the audience time to cheer wildly!
- A note from one of our audience members really showed today. When our Narnians head to Cair Paravel, shouldn't they be excited and happy? I think so. So, make the audience believe it! Cheer and dance and be excited! Let's make our audience feel our joy!
- Field of Flowers looks gorgeous, folks. Those candles are perfect and you all sounds so lovely. Nice work!
- Tomorrow, thank your Chaperones! They are doing a wonderful job keeping everyone in order and focused!
- Also, tomorrow evening, please enter the theater using the side door near the loading dock. There will be an event happening in the Lobby prior to the show, so we need to be discreet with our arrival. The loading dock is on the right hand side of the street while you are coming up on the first stop sign as you descend to the lower parking lot. There will be college classes going on during our call time. Please keep the noise down!
Yours,
Amy

Newsflash 1 - Tech Week & Beyond
Ahoy all my friendly, furry
folks! Stage Manager here. I'm sending out this lengthy
Wardrobe note to explain the plan for the next few weeks.
Hopefully, this will aid in answering all those questions
you've been saving for the theatre!
FAQs of Tech Week
What do I need for tech week?
- One laundry basket, clearly marked with the actor's name, to house ALL their costumes.
- A bottle of water, marked with the actor's name, to keep them hydrated! Make sure their well fed and leave the Turkish Delight at home.
- One quiet activity, marked with a name, for the actor to use while they are not on stage. Examples: A book, knitting, pencil and paper to doodle, crosswords or word search puzzles, etc. It is not wise to bring ANY valuables to the theatre. Examples: Ipods, video games, computers, cell phone, camera, etc. These things may get lost and while we can help look for lost items, it is easier to just leave them at home!
- Patience. Tech week is as much of a rehearsal for the actors as it is for the Tech crew! We will be running light and sound cues, moving set pieces, placing props -- ie: general chaos. Thus, we will need everyone to come to rehearsal with an upbeat, positive attitude and a willingness to focus. We understand this process is tedious. But, the better everyone focuses, the faster it can get done!
- Chaperone: These lovely volunteers have one of the most important jobs in the show! They are in the trenches with our actors and have the daunting task of keeping order backstage. Luckily, they have the total support from our staff, as well as the power to report misbehavior to me. They must come at Call Time, stay backstage and help, then leave when the last child is picked up. If you have more questions about this useful and fantastic position, please see me or Nicole E., the Chaperone Chair, for more information! We are currently light on Chaperones during the second weekend. Let's all help out!
- Tech Crew: A number of wonderful folks have volunteered to wander through the perilous, but fulfilling tech crew fiasco. All our shows are well covered, but we are still looking for a couple of people to help on the Thursday fieldtrip shows. We are also in need of one or two more ladies (Sorry, dads!) to assist with the distribution of the microphones during the show. There will be training! We don't expect you to know it all...this is why it's educational theater!
- If you are not volunteering for either of these positions, your job is to drop your child (or children) off, and pick them up on time! Seems easy, right?
- Tuesday and Wednesday evenings will be our dress rehearsal nights. Please have each actor arrive with makeup already applied and their costume ready to be worn. The faster we can begin our run-thru, the sooner we can be finished!
- We are lucky to have a professional make-up artist designing the make-up for this show. She is creating individual designs for each character and will teach you how to achieve it. She will be purchasing the make-up necessary for each participant and have it available at the theater for application prior to the shows. She will do her best to keep costs down. She will be available at most dress rehearsals & shows to assist in make-up application, but each participant is ultimately responsible to get his/her make-up done. Older participants (12 & up) can be taught to do their own make-up. Parents will need to apply younger children's make-up, or find another parent to do so. Each actor will need to arrive at the theatre in full makeup! Please arrange for this in advance.
- For adults in the show & Parents who are busy during the rehearsal (Tech Crew, Chaperones, etc.) Just join the group during the scheduled break for 2:00- 2:30.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Now, on to some general rules and information about tech rehearsals, show procedures and our Strike:
- The backstage of Cañada is not a large place. We will be in cramped quarters and we need the help of ALL parents to make sure that order is achieved. Thus, children 8 and under will be allowed only 1 (one) parent backstage to assist with their costume and help clean up their area before and after the show. We have found that the younger members of our cast need that extra help to keep organized. But, the older members are responsible for collecting their costume pieces and placing them nicely in their baskets. Don't think you can keep away from the backstage? Volunteer to Chaperone!
- Shoes must be worn at ALL TIMES when at rehearsal. As we are buzzing around fixing and updating set pieces, we are not always sure to pick up every last screw or piece of sharp wood. Flip flops are not considered proper footwear!
- Call for our shows is ONE HOUR before curtain. This hour is important for the cast members to prepare for the show. Please show up ON TIME to each call.
- Dismissal from rehearsals AND shows is based upon the cleanliness of the backstage area. Each cast member is responsible for cleaning up their area, as well as helping others in their immediate vicinity. Each cast member will be dismissed by either a Chaperone, or the Stage Manager.
Strike on Sunday, November 11, 2007
Finally, you may be asking, "What is a strike?"
Well, as much as we'd LIKE to quit working and create a picket line, it is actually the complete opposite. Strike consists of many facets, but the overarching idea is that we must dismantle the set and clean the theatre and put things back where we found them. In Boy and Girl Scouts, they use a term, "Leave No Trace". We like that idea, too. Everyone will be included in cleaning and organizing, so parents must be ready to pitch in where needed! Also, cast members will not be released from service until 5:45pm at the earliest on that final Sunday. You may be thinking, "Wow..that seems like a long time for the kids to be held..." But, really? It's not!
- During Strike, our spectacular and HARD WORKING costume ladies will be collecting pieces of costumes that eTc wants back. Don't know what needs to go and needs to stay? They will let your cast member know! But, with so many fantastic kids and parents in our show, this process will be detailed and time consuming.
- Aside from the chaos of costumes, our tech team will be hard at work dismantling and loading up all those gorgeous set pieces. How can you help with that? Keep your children away from the stage! Any strong armed helpers can talk to our stage crew chief, Simeon, if they are looking to lend a hand!
- The lobby will need to be cleaned and all our things (concessions, tables, ticket booth bits) will need to make their way back to the warehouse.
- Also, the theatre seat rows will need to be walked to collect trash and other items left behind.
Once the cast members are finished with their group cleanup of the backstage "green room" area, they will be sent to help in other areas. There are so many loose ends that must be tied before we are dismissed. So, patience is needed before we can go PARTY!
Here ends my long-winded and rule-heavy note. If anything is confusing or you have even MORE questions you need addressed, please feel free to respond to the Weekly Wardrobe and I will get in touch with you. If you want immediate response, or have bundles of questions for me, please find me on Saturday's rehearsal. In the meantime, make sure your actors are looking over their lines and getting PLENTY of rest.
See you on Saturday,
Amy the Stage Manager

Bring
a Costume Container – VERY
IMPORTANT!
The costume committee would like to remind all cast
members that they are responsible for ALL of their
costume pieces, whether supplied by the cast member or
the costume committee for the entire run of the show,
unless otherwise notified. Please bring to the theater a
laundry basket, box or other container with your name
clearly marked to store your items in. It is a good idea
to check all of your costumes pieces both before and
after each performance to make sure you have everything.

designing the make-up for this show. She is creating
individual designs for each character and will teach you
how to achieve it. She will be purchasing the make-up
necessary for each participant and have it available at
the theater for application prior to the shows. She will
do her best to keep costs down. She will be available at
most dress rehearsals & shows to assist in make-up
application, but each participant is ultimately
responsible to get his/her make-up done. Older
participants (12 & up) can be taught to do their own
make-up. Parents will need to apply younger children's
make-up, or find another parent to do so.
For adults in the show & Parents who are busy during
the rehearsal (Tech Crew, Chaperones, etc.) Just join the
group during the scheduled break for 2:00- 2:30.
Costume Committee still needs help!!
