Weekly
Wardrobe – Week 11 (Final
Edition)
We can see
winter turning into spring and our journey close to an
end. A journey, a fable, flocked with many life
enriching messages, from the inside out!
Only four more performances, a little clean up (OK
Amy….a lot of clean up!) and a rip roaring Cast
Party and we'll be closing the wardrobe on the land
of Narnia.
Hopefully we've met new friends, learned a little more
about ourselves, our children, our community and most of
all, the art of theatre. WE did it! Enjoy the
weekend and we'll see you in the next production,
Peter
Pan!
Cast Reminders
Costume Check
Please be sure to inventory
ALL of your cast members' costume pieces BEFORE arriving
at the theater. Please make sure that the costumes
are in good shape and if wrinkled, a light pressing would
be appreciated. Remember, if you do not have your
complete costume, you should not go on-stage.
Lost and Found!
If
you have performed your costume check and you have items
that are missing, there's a good chance that they can be
found in our lost and found. Be sure to check the pile in
the last "dressing/music room", you may be surprised by
what you find!
Be Prepared
Let's make our last four
performances count! Get plenty of rest and come
prepared. Review your lines, blocking and
songs. Be considerate of your fellow cast members,
especially the younger ones!
Hair Control
Let's keep that
fur,
humm, hair under control. If you have long hair
and/or long bangs, make sure that your hair is pulled
back and/or pinned so that it will not fall in your
face. We are seeing way too many cast members
playing with their hair while on stage.

Newsflash #2
ATTENTION ALL YE WHO
DWELL IN NARNIA
Stage Manager speaking.
Here's a few notes and some new
information:
- Today was great! We got many wonderful reviews from the parents and students in the audience. But, as we all know, the second act was a bit shaky. Thus, tomorrow's call has been shifted from 6:30 to 6:00pm, allowing for the tech crew and any cast members available to run the last three or four scene changes. If you can make it, great! If you are in a rush, don't fret. We're just looking to make our opening night performance look effortless. So, 6:00pm is a great target! See you then!
- During our performance today, we were so excited to have the show go smoothly that we forgot about pausing for our much deserved applause at the end of each song! So, please note if you have a line directly following a song that you should pause a few moments before you say your line, giving the audience time to cheer wildly!
- A note from one of our audience members really showed today. When our Narnians head to Cair Paravel, shouldn't they be excited and happy? I think so. So, make the audience believe it! Cheer and dance and be excited! Let's make our audience feel our joy!
- Field of Flowers looks gorgeous, folks. Those candles are perfect and you all sounds so lovely. Nice work!
- Tomorrow, thank your Chaperones! They are doing a wonderful job keeping everyone in order and focused!
- Also, tomorrow evening, please enter the theater using the side door near the loading dock. There will be an event happening in the Lobby prior to the show, so we need to be discreet with our arrival. The loading dock is on the right hand side of the street while you are coming up on the first stop sign as you descend to the lower parking lot. There will be college classes going on during our call time. Please keep the noise down!
Yours,
Amy

Newsflash 1 - Tech Week & Beyond
Ahoy all my friendly, furry
folks! Stage Manager here. I'm sending out this lengthy
Wardrobe note to explain the plan for the next few weeks.
Hopefully, this will aid in answering all those questions
you've been saving for the theatre!
FAQs of Tech Week
What do I need for tech week?
- One laundry basket, clearly marked with the actor's name, to house ALL their costumes.
- A bottle of water, marked with the actor's name, to keep them hydrated! Make sure their well fed and leave the Turkish Delight at home.
- One quiet activity, marked with a name, for the actor to use while they are not on stage. Examples: A book, knitting, pencil and paper to doodle, crosswords or word search puzzles, etc. It is not wise to bring ANY valuables to the theatre. Examples: Ipods, video games, computers, cell phone, camera, etc. These things may get lost and while we can help look for lost items, it is easier to just leave them at home!
- Patience. Tech week is as much of a rehearsal for the actors as it is for the Tech crew! We will be running light and sound cues, moving set pieces, placing props -- ie: general chaos. Thus, we will need everyone to come to rehearsal with an upbeat, positive attitude and a willingness to focus. We understand this process is tedious. But, the better everyone focuses, the faster it can get done!
- Chaperone: These lovely volunteers have one of the most important jobs in the show! They are in the trenches with our actors and have the daunting task of keeping order backstage. Luckily, they have the total support from our staff, as well as the power to report misbehavior to me. They must come at Call Time, stay backstage and help, then leave when the last child is picked up. If you have more questions about this useful and fantastic position, please see me or Nicole E., the Chaperone Chair, for more information! We are currently light on Chaperones during the second weekend. Let's all help out!
- Tech Crew: A number of wonderful folks have volunteered to wander through the perilous, but fulfilling tech crew fiasco. All our shows are well covered, but we are still looking for a couple of people to help on the Thursday fieldtrip shows. We are also in need of one or two more ladies (Sorry, dads!) to assist with the distribution of the microphones during the show. There will be training! We don't expect you to know it all...this is why it's educational theater!
- If you are not volunteering for either of these positions, your job is to drop your child (or children) off, and pick them up on time! Seems easy, right?
- Tuesday and Wednesday evenings will be our dress rehearsal nights. Please have each actor arrive with makeup already applied and their costume ready to be worn. The faster we can begin our run-thru, the sooner we can be finished!
- We are lucky to have a professional make-up artist designing the make-up for this show. She is creating individual designs for each character and will teach you how to achieve it. She will be purchasing the make-up necessary for each participant and have it available at the theater for application prior to the shows. She will do her best to keep costs down. She will be available at most dress rehearsals & shows to assist in make-up application, but each participant is ultimately responsible to get his/her make-up done. Older participants (12 & up) can be taught to do their own make-up. Parents will need to apply younger children's make-up, or find another parent to do so. Each actor will need to arrive at the theatre in full makeup! Please arrange for this in advance.
- For adults in the show & Parents who are busy during the rehearsal (Tech Crew, Chaperones, etc.) Just join the group during the scheduled break for 2:00- 2:30.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Now, on to some general rules and information about tech rehearsals, show procedures and our Strike:
- The backstage of Cañada is not a large place. We will be in cramped quarters and we need the help of ALL parents to make sure that order is achieved. Thus, children 8 and under will be allowed only 1 (one) parent backstage to assist with their costume and help clean up their area before and after the show. We have found that the younger members of our cast need that extra help to keep organized. But, the older members are responsible for collecting their costume pieces and placing them nicely in their baskets. Don't think you can keep away from the backstage? Volunteer to Chaperone!
- Shoes must be worn at ALL TIMES when at rehearsal. As we are buzzing around fixing and updating set pieces, we are not always sure to pick up every last screw or piece of sharp wood. Flip flops are not considered proper footwear!
- Call for our shows is ONE HOUR before curtain. This hour is important for the cast members to prepare for the show. Please show up ON TIME to each call.
- Dismissal from rehearsals AND shows is based upon the cleanliness of the backstage area. Each cast member is responsible for cleaning up their area, as well as helping others in their immediate vicinity. Each cast member will be dismissed by either a Chaperone, or the Stage Manager.
Strike on Sunday, November 11, 2007
Finally, you may be asking, "What is a strike?"
Well, as much as we'd LIKE to quit working and create a picket line, it is actually the complete opposite. Strike consists of many facets, but the overarching idea is that we must dismantle the set and clean the theatre and put things back where we found them. In Boy and Girl Scouts, they use a term, "Leave No Trace". We like that idea, too. Everyone will be included in cleaning and organizing, so parents must be ready to pitch in where needed! Also, cast members will not be released from service until 5:45pm at the earliest on that final Sunday. You may be thinking, "Wow..that seems like a long time for the kids to be held..." But, really? It's not!
- During Strike, our spectacular and HARD WORKING costume ladies will be collecting pieces of costumes that eTc wants back. Don't know what needs to go and needs to stay? They will let your cast member know! But, with so many fantastic kids and parents in our show, this process will be detailed and time consuming.
- Aside from the chaos of costumes, our tech team will be hard at work dismantling and loading up all those gorgeous set pieces. How can you help with that? Keep your children away from the stage! Any strong armed helpers can talk to our stage crew chief, Simeon, if they are looking to lend a hand!
- The lobby will need to be cleaned and all our things (concessions, tables, ticket booth bits) will need to make their way back to the warehouse.
- Also, the theatre seat rows will need to be walked to collect trash and other items left behind.
Once the cast members are finished with their group cleanup of the backstage "green room" area, they will be sent to help in other areas. There are so many loose ends that must be tied before we are dismissed. So, patience is needed before we can go PARTY!
Here ends my long-winded and rule-heavy note. If anything is confusing or you have even MORE questions you need addressed, please feel free to respond to the Weekly Wardrobe and I will get in touch with you. If you want immediate response, or have bundles of questions for me, please find me on Saturday's rehearsal. In the meantime, make sure your actors are looking over their lines and getting PLENTY of rest.
See you on Saturday,
Amy the Stage Manager

Bring
a Costume Container – VERY
IMPORTANT!
The costume committee would like to remind all cast
members that they are responsible for ALL of their
costume pieces, whether supplied by the cast member or
the costume committee for the entire run of the show,
unless otherwise notified. Please bring to the theater a
laundry basket, box or other container with your name
clearly marked to store your items in. It is a good idea
to check all of your costumes pieces both before and
after each performance to make sure you have everything.

designing the make-up for this show. She is creating
individual designs for each character and will teach you
how to achieve it. She will be purchasing the make-up
necessary for each participant and have it available at
the theater for application prior to the shows. She will
do her best to keep costs down. She will be available at
most dress rehearsals & shows to assist in make-up
application, but each participant is ultimately
responsible to get his/her make-up done. Older
participants (12 & up) can be taught to do their own
make-up. Parents will need to apply younger children's
make-up, or find another parent to do so.
For adults in the show & Parents who are busy during
the rehearsal (Tech Crew, Chaperones, etc.) Just join the
group during the scheduled break for 2:00- 2:30.
Costume Committee still needs help!!
Theresa will be at the warehouse on Saturday from

Weekly Wardrobe - Week 7
Oh my! Just 3 short weeks
and Narnia
will come to life
for all to see! That's right, our first field trip show
is in 21 days! We have 2 more working weekends to bring
the world that lies beyond the wardrobe together, so stay
healthy and get plenty of rest. Everyone has been
working so hard, and it is amazing to see all of the
activity that is taking place both in front of and behind
the scenes. Again a BIG THANK YOU for a very successful
Nitty Gritty Day! We still have a ways to go, but with
everyone pitching in, we are definitely staying ahead of
the storm! Keep up the good work! It's going to be
a GREAT SHOW!
Cast Reminders
All Cast Calls
Not getting enough eTc time? The next two weekends will
be "ALL CALLS", ALL (that means everyone) will be
called Saturdays and Sundays. Mark your calendars.
Monday's will remain "AS CALLED".
Hillsdale Mall Teaser
Mark your calendars now….we will be "teasing" the
crowd at Hillsdale Mall, Macy's lower court on
Sunday Oct. 21st 5-7pm with little "gems" from the
show. Please reserve 5-7pm for the teaser, the
staff will soon let us know the exact time frame.
What
is Tech Week?
Tech week is the most crucial week of the pre-production
portion of the show. It will begin with full
rehearsals Sunday through Wednesday and finish with a
Thursday morning field trip performance. It will be the
first time the participants are at the theater with the
full set, costumes and orchestra. The lighting,
sound and stage cues are being set at this time and
chaperones and stage crew are also learning the cues,
too!
It is vital that there are no conflicts during Tech
Week.
Oh, but what about Trick or Treat? If your little Ghouls
and Goblins are sad about missing out on the freaky fun
of horrific Halloween, don't fret! Something SPOOKY is
a'brewin' for the Wednesday of Tech Week. The staff is
keeping up the suspense, so it will be a surprise! Get
ready for a treat (or a trick?)!

Nitty
Gritty Part ll, Set Construction this Sunday!
Last Sunday's Nitty Gritty
progress went very well, thank you, however there's much
more to do. The set construction crew has been diligently
working to complete all of the set pieces for
Narnia.
There has been very little time to catch a breath and
they could really use any additional time that ANYONE can
spare this weekend. Please come, no construction
experience necessary, come lend a hand, learn a new skill
and make new friends. Scott and the gang will welcome you
with open arms! So, just drop off the kids and join in
the construction fun!!!
House Duty & Chaperone Sign-ups – This Weekend

Two casts? Wondering if your cast member is performing or
not? Well here's the answer...
each participant will perform in all 8 main stage

Weekly Wardrobe – Week 6
Ok, we're down to the
"Nitty Gritty" ….just three full
weekends of work at the warehouse before load in!
On Sunday we invite (ok…ok…I know it's
mandatory…but "invite" sounds soooo much better!)
at least one parent from each family to join in the
warehouse fun and lend a hand to the various committees
that are frantically working to finalize the world as we
know it, Narnia.
Just in case you end up painting, be sure to leave the
nice clothes at home. When you get to the warehouse
please sign in and you will be directed to an
activity.
See you this weekend! Directions

Headshots this SUNDAY!
Buff your antlers, fluff your fur, pucker your
lips…or…well… at least comb your
hair! Try to look your best on Sunday for
Headshots. These are the pictures that will be on
display in the lobby with your bio for all to see. Please
bring your completed Headshot form, including payment
(checks to: Teresa Halton), to rehearsal on Sunday.
Headshots are generally taken from the shoulders up. If
you choose to bring in a photo, it must be black &
white,
4" wide x 6" high, from the shoulders up, name on back,
in an envelope. Here's the link to the form:

Two
Paws & Hoofs Up!
Bill and his staff would like to thank everyone for their
hard work and patience last weekend getting started on
ACT 2. You're all doing a great job! Be sure to
carefully study your lines, blocking, dancing and songs
before you arrive. Remember to bring your script
and music sheets to review between scenes.
Please
be sure to pack a LUNCH for Saturday and a hearty snack
for Sunday , these are long days and
everyone will need to keep fed and hydrated.
Also bring a
quiet
activity….books…cards…art…etc...
to enjoy during down time. Keep up the grrrreat work!

Bios
For those not familiar with our lobby
display…bios, together with headshots of each cast
member are displayed in the lobby for our audience to
enjoy. These are returned to each cast member at
the end of the show. For your cast members' BIO,
please write a short paragraph to go along with the
headshot. Tell about your past theater experience,
school interests, or anything else you would like to tell
members of the audience about yourself. Use "third
person" style (use "he or she", NOT "I or me").
Please do not include school names. Please
keep length reasonable as the headshot also needs to fit
on the page. If the bio is too long it will be
edited or text size will be reduced. Here's an
example to help you get started:
Example: Mary is 10 years old and is thrilled to be
doing her third e.T.c. production, playing the role of
Slightly Soiled in the Rascal Cast. She has
previously been seen in "The Wiz" (Crow) and "Anne of
Green Gables" (Josie). Mary is in 4th grade and
also enjoys gymnastics, soccer and Pokemon.
You'll find a bio form in your family folder this
weekend, however please submit all bios to
contact@bayareaetc.org
Subject:
BIO & Cast Member Name…. by Sunday, Oct. 21,
earlier is appreciated. As you can probably
imagine, this saves an incredible amount of typing time.

they're having a lot of fun, feel free to join
them…

Cast Reminders
Be
Off Book
Everyone is making such great
progress that Bill (yep, the Director) would like
EVERYONE to please be off book for Act 1
ASAP. If you are not
familiar with this term, it basically means that all
characters must have their lines memorized and be ready
to run their scenes without a script in hand. If a
line is forgotten, Amy our Stage Manager will be there to
assist with line delivery. We are now beginning Act 2,
and will be doing run-thrus before you know it.
Being off-book will help you more than you know. Those
being animals have the homework of watching YOUR animal
either on the Discovery Channel, video, or actually going
to the zoo. Look at the way it acts, moves, and
characteristics that you can incorporate into your
character. You're all doing great, and we are very
pleased. Keep up the great work!
Music,
Music, Music!
For those who wish a
recorded mp3 file of music specific to your singing
part, please e-mail Paul our vocal/music director
at pwanless@aol.com with
your request. Be sure to include your
name, e-mail address, character role, song title, and the
part you wish recorded, thanks!

Volunteers
– Cast Party
Let's give these characters a cast party they will not
forget! We are looking for a few more volunteers to
help with the planning and logistics for the cast party.
It is typically held after the final performance when
strike is complete. If you like to throw parties, this is
the committee for you! See Devra at Parkside or
send an e-mail to etcweeklywardrobe@gmail.comif
you are interested.

– Raffle Committee
Ever
dreamed of being V.P. of donations & accounting, for
a highly regarded non-profit organization? Are your
skills in Excel domain second to none and what to show
them off? Ever wanted to try your hand at packaging
merchandise for an extra special display for a raffle
table? What about mailing letters to folks you don't even
know, thanking them for their generosity? We can make it
happen for you! No resume or interview necessary, see
Devra at Parkside or send an e-mail to

Tickets,
Tickets, Tickets!
Tickets will be going on sale
for Narnia starting this weekend (September 30th). Make
sure to get your orders in early for the best seats (all
seats are assigned). Ticket prices are: Adults $15,
Seniors $12, Students $10. Don't forget seats for
all those friends and family members! Ticket Orders
can be turned in at rehearsals/folder marked "Tickets" or
mailed to the warehouse. Order forms were in your
folders last weekend and are also available on the web
site at
http://www.bayareaetc.org/forms/TicketOrderForm.pdf
Special
Ticket Offers -- Buy Ahead & Save Some
Clams
Vouchers: You can purchase 10
ticket vouchers for $120 (a $30 dollar savings) and each
voucher is good for one reserved seat/ticket to any of
the Narnia shows. These are great for family, friends,
and teachers. You don't need to worry about what show
they want to attend — give (or sell) them a voucher
and they can call the box office and get seats for any
show! Voucher order forms were in your folders last
weekend and are also available on the web
site.
Proud
Parent Pass
Proud Parent Pass: A great
way to see every show for one low price -- $50!
These are only available for parents of the actors and
each parent needs to have their own pass (they are not
transferable). Seats are general admission - so
come to the box office the day of the show to obtain a
reserved seat. Proud Parent Pass order forms were in your
folders last weekend and are also available
at http://www.bayareaetc.org/forms/VoucherParentPass.pdf
If you have questions about tickets look for Bonnie -
your kids know her as Mrs. Beaver, but she can also be
identified by the "ticket" hat she will be sporting
(usually it is pretty hard to miss!)
Narnia
Production T-Shirts
Just for
being part of this magical show, each participant will
receive a Narnia t-shirt. Devra, our program coordinator,
has been double checking the t-shirt sizes received
from each participant's registration form. If your size
was missing, she will be sure to track you down before
the order is made. If anyone else would like to
order a t-shirt, an order form will be available in your
family folder this weekend. Please be sure to return it
to the "T-Shirt" folder in the family box by the
October 6 deadline with full payment.
One Liners
Look for the one-liner order
form in the family folder this weekend! One-liners are a
fun way to recognize and congratulate your star in
the Narnia program. Each actor receives one free
one-liner. Parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents,
aunts and uncles, friends or anyone who wishes to
purchase extra one-liners can do so at the low cost of $5
per one liner (35 characters), see
http://www.bayareaetc.org/forms/OneLiner.pdf
. The cost of the
one-liner directly offsets the cost to print the
programs. Deadline to turn in the one-liners is October
20 at rehearsal. Additional forms
available
Program
Ads
Do you know of a business that would be interested
in advertising to 5,000 people over two weekends for
a very low price? You can place an ad in
the Narnia program. There are three ad size options,
business card, half page and whole page. The cost of
the ad helps directly offset the cost to print
all the programs. The ads are also a fun way to
congratulate your star. The deadline for the ads is
October 20. Look for the order form in your family folder
this weekend! Need additional forms, visit
http://www.bayareaetc.org/forms/AdOrderForm.pdf
Field
Trip Forms
We have started to receive a number of Field Trip
forms. Make sure your class gets the best seats by
getting these forms in as early as possible. If you
know of any additional classes, older pre-school groups
or senior groups that may want to attend, please make
sure they get a form as well. Forms are available on the

least by the following rehearsal. If you have not

Measurements - Overdue
No Late Fees……However, when the costume
committee is searching for sizes in the wee hours of the
morning and is required to take a guess at your child's
measurements, the outcome is sometimes quite
unpredictable! The costume committee is very busy
and works really hard to insure that each costume is
correct. Please make their job a little
easier. Thanks to all who have sent them in!
Headshots October 7th
Headshots will be taken on Sunday October 7th.
Headshots are attached to our actor bios and displayed in
the lobby of the theatre. At the end of the show, they
are yours to keep. Once again, we have teamed up with
Teresa Halton Photography to provide headshots for our
cast members. Headshots are $10.00 each (payable to
Teresa Halton Photography). In addition, Teresa has
agreed to offer additional picture packages to our cast
member if you so desire. The headshot form
can be found at www.bayareaetc.org/narnia2007/forms.html
.
Please bring this form along with
payment to rehearsal on October 7th. Cast members
who decide not to have their headshots taken are asked to
provide a 4x6 (4" horizontal, 6" vertical) Black and
White Headshot for their bios. Please put it in a marked
envelope and place it in the "Bios" folder at the back of
the family folders or see that Devra gets it at Parkside.

sure your class gets the best seats by getting these

Weekly Wardrobe – Week 3
The majestic mist throughout the land (better known as
casting and grouping!) has pretty much subsided and all
of the inhabitants of the Narnia are starting to settle
into their new roles and responsibilities. A BIG thanks
to Bill & the Parkside Staff, Scott & the
Warehouse Gang, Webmaster Kevin, IT Extraordinaire
Simeon, Danielle, Jeff, Amy and all of the parents who
all worked together in making our first full weekend of
rehearsals a success. I even think the kids had a
little fun too! Now on to the business at hand....

Here we go…it's our first full weekend of
rehearsals. We hope everyone is well rested and ready to
set off to a land of wonder and enchantment, a land
called
Narnia. As we start this
production, we have a few reminders and announcements:
Cast Reminders
In addition to specialty roles, all cast members have
been placed into ensemble dance groups with a letter
designation. These groups can be found in the cast list
section of the Narnia Webpage at www.BayAreaEtc.org.
Rehearsals are called by group and/or specialty role. Be
sure to check the schedule for both.
What to bring
Come to rehearsal prepared. All cast members should have
their script, a pencil for notes and a water bottle. We'd
greatly appreciate you labeling your belongings with your
name. Snacks and a good book sometimes come in handy. And
if you have sniffles…Kleenex is sooo much better
than a shirt sleeve!
What to wear
Be comfortable. Wear clothing for movement. As for toes,
please keep them tucked inside tennis or dance shoes.
Rehearsal is not a fashion show…please keep those
bellies and b-straps covered!
Arrive 10 minutes early
We have a lot to cover and starting on time will help us
achieve our goals. When you arrive, be sure to sign-in
and proceed to your called area. Parents, please refrain
from contacting the artistic staff as they will be busy
with cast members. Our production coordinator, Devra
Harris will be available at the beginning of each session
to help with any questions or concerns you may have.
